Prodrive P2 technology demonstrator
P2 is a concept car developed by David Richard's racing and engineering firm Prodrive. Styled by Peter Steven, the car had design details similar to his MG SV. Mechanically, the car was based on Subaru Impreza's WRX STI engine and drivetrain, but the 2.0 turbocharged boxer engine is boosted to 345 horsepower, while the 4WD system added Prodrive's Active Torque Dynamics system (with active center and rear differentials like the rally Impreza). Besides, an "anti-lag system" is added to the turbocharger, which, like the afterburner of aircraft jet engines, burns the unburnt fuel in the exhaust manifolds to increase gas pressure to the exhaust turbine. The 1100 kg car claims 174 mph top speed and 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. Surprisingly, Prodrive said the chassis was derived from the Japanese Subaru R1 Kei-car, hard to believe. Despite of its exciting spec, Prodrive cannot put it into production by its own. However, the Active Torque Dynamics system and Anti-Lag System could attract car makers to be its customers, which is the intention of building the P2.
